Over the years, Sarasota has become a mecca for the arts in Florida. The American Theatre Critics Association (ATCA) held its 2009 conference in this delightful city of circuses, museums, botanical gardens, innovative theater and, of course, inviting beaches.

The purpose of these regional conferences is to learn about theater around the country...what's being performed, audience response, the challenges and opportunities in a particular location.

It's rare to find a city with the population of Sarasota supporting its own Opera House, ballet and vibrant theater scene. Jay Handelman of the Sarasota Herald Tribune made sure we saw the very best that Sarasota has to offer.
